Be a Marathon Man

I get asked a lot how running can be added to weight lifting programs to help with fat loss.

I had the opportunity to contribute to a piece called "Be a Marathon Man" in this month's (July/August 2011) Maximum Fitness.  I am very proud because this is my first appearance in Maximum Fitness and I was the only Strength and Conditioning Coach quoted in this two page spread.

This piece written by the Senior Editor discusses several considerations for adding running to a lifting program.

It also discusses how dudes can preserve precious muscle - running results in cortisol production, which can be detrimental to your average gym-goer.  Cortisol is a stress hormone that breaks down muscle.  Running too much might result in some muscle loss.  Keep in mind if you're a middle-to-long distance runner, this doesn't apply to you because you need to get the miles in to improve your race performance.

Check out the article to get the full scoop.  Here's a snap-shot from my phone:

Let me know what you think,

RUN STRONG,
